Welcome to the Education Square 2025

Games are fun, of course, but they also challenge you! Without even realising it, you practise a wide range of skills. This idea forms the basis for the Education Square at Spellenspektakel. This year, you will once again find a fine collection of publishers of educational games.

At the Education Square, we are keen to show you how games can contribute to development, motivation, and enjoyment of learning. Meet publishers, developers, and experts. Stop by the square for a chat, share knowledge and experiences and discover the possibilities of games in education.

The following participants will be present at the Education Square 2025 of Spellenspektakel:

de Rolf groep

De Rolf groep

With many years of experience in education, de Rolf Groep is well known to many. This organisation is a total supplier for education. During the Spellenspektakel, they are keen to show how they apply learning through play and how they use their materials for a broad group of children of different levels.

This year’s Education Square has been made possible by the Rolf Group. Just before the Games Spectacular, we will be talking to them about their plans for this year. You can read more about this on our website from 28 October.

Test de tijd

Immerse yourself in history with Test de Tijd — a fast, smart and surprisingly educational game for young and old!

Take turns placing cards on the timeline and discover: what happened first? The simple flip & check principle ensures excitement, fun and plenty of “aha!” moments. The game was developed by history teacher Heije Wubs and combines fun with important exam skills for secondary school pupils. It teaches you about the characteristic aspects that have shaped our history in a playful way.

A delightful mix of competition, knowledge and fun — in short: Test the Time is the best way to bring history to life!

Expertisecentrum Speel je Vaardig

Heidi and Margot from Expertisecentrum Speel je vaardig (Play Smart) know that board games are more than just fun. They are happy to explain how you can use games to strengthen all kinds of skills. This includes not only language and maths skills, but also a growth mindset: daring to try new things and learning from them. With their mission statement, “A step forward with every move”, they want to get everyone playing.

Heidi and Margot share their expertise in the form of workshops and training courses for education professionals, but also as team building activities. In addition, they write educational texts for existing board, card and dice games on behalf of game publishers. They have also compiled their knowledge in a practical book that explains how to use each game to develop thinking and behavioural skills (executive functions).

The Serious Gamers

The Serious Gamers are appearing at the Education Square for the first time this year. They transform workplaces — game by game.

The Serious Gamers believe that real change begins by experiencing it in a game. Serious games touch, stimulate and encourage action. In a safe environment, you can experiment, fail and try again. This leads to growth as a team, as individuals and as an organisation.

The Serious Gamers teach professionals how to use games themselves at work. We also offer powerful games and workshops that create movement. Are you up for the challenge of playing more games at work?

De Speelbode

De Speelbode is an online shop offering a wide range of games for education and language professionals. The extensive range of existing language, learning and board games is supplemented with our own publications. This allows you to playfully engage with subjects such as arithmetic, spelling, reading and reading comprehension. The games are always selected and developed with an eye for quality, educational value and enjoyment.

Founder Emmelie brings her experience as a speech therapist and teacher to the range. Drawing on this expertise, she also provides numerous practical tips for using the games in ways that go beyond their intended purpose.

In this way, De Speelbode helps to give play a structural place in learning, so that children can develop more enjoyably and effectively. Visit them at the Onderwijsplein and discover how you can use play to really learn through play.

Math Masters

DutchGames.fun proudly presents this magical and educational board game. In this adventure, fun is combined with clever maths challenges that invite young and old alike to discover their mathematical talents. Maths becomes an adventure with Math Masters.

The rules are simple, but the challenge remains: solve mathematical puzzles, collect points and win the title of Master of Math! With different levels of difficulty, the game is suitable for pupils who want to practise mental arithmetic, but also for adults who want to refresh their skills.

Math Masters makes learning exciting and accessible. It stimulates logical thinking, number sense and strategy — all wrapped up in a colourful, imaginative game universe. Perfect for use in the classroom, during maths circuits, or just at the kitchen table.

Earth Games

Earth Games believes that play is the key to connecting with yourself, with others and with the earth. For more than twenty years, founder Anne Mijke van Harten has been developing games and workshops that allow children and adults to experience how valuable cooperation can be.

At Earth Games, it’s not about winning, but about achieving goals together. The cooperative games teach players to consult, listen, seek solutions and work together. This not only increases the enjoyment of the game, but also boosts self-confidence, social skills and a sense of connection.

Earth Games works with schools, coaches, therapists and parents, and also offers a special school package of cooperative games. Discover how playing can have a positive impact on learning, behaviour and well-being — for people and the planet.

Giddy Games

At Giddy Games , it’s all about learning with fun. Founder Gideon has been designing games for over twenty years that help people learn and collaborate in a playful way. From custom board games for training courses to interactive tools for schools, every design starts with empathy, a good understanding of the target group and a clear learning objective.

Giddy Games’ games get people moving: literally and figuratively. They stimulate communication, collaboration and reflection — exactly what is needed to truly acquire knowledge. Whether the themes are customer focus, inclusion or self-insight, Giddy Games translates complex learning objectives into clear, playful forms that stick.

With titles such as Over Prikkels, Buiten de Boot and Fans Maken, Giddy Games proves that learning can be fun, effective and surprisingly interactive. Want to make learning more enjoyable for your team, class or organisation? Giddy Games helps you develop a game that perfectly matches your goals.

Pumpkin Games

Pumpkin Games combines learning and playing in unique roll-and-write games that you can download for free. They can be found at www.wikiwijs.nl, the platform for open educational resources created on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. The first titles will be released on 1 November, aimed at children aged 10 to 14.

The games allow pupils to practise understanding instructions, reading skills and mathematical insight in a playful way. The rules of the game are divided into short, clear steps that players actively practise through different types of questions. In this way, they not only learn how a game works, but also how to read comprehensively, make connections and come up with their own variations.

The first game, Drakengoud, is a playable comic strip full of adventure and logical challenges. Then there is Magische Torens, in which probability theory comes to life. This will be followed by more games that teach pupils mathematical concepts without them even noticing.

Pumpkin Games makes learning fun: from smart reading to smarter arithmetic, without you even realising it.
